All of 800.com's current plans include one toll free number, one local number, and one fax number with the exception of our Pro plan which includes 5 toll free numbers. If you do not have one of the 3 or would like to add more numbers you can click the "Get More Numbers" button on the top right of the "Numbers" tab.
Toll Free Numbers
To search for a Toll Free number, set the Search Type to "Toll-Free Voice & SMS." Then choose a toll free prefix from the list, or leave it as 8** to use any available prefixes.
Next, enter in anything you would like to include in your new toll free number. This is your opportunity to search for keywords associated with your industry, or anything else that will make your number easy to communicate and easy to remember. You can also search for specific numbers to include.
You may also choose whether you’d want a new number with your keyword at the beginning, the end, or anywhere in between by using the Starts with, Ends with, or Contains buttons.
Then either press the Enter key or click the Search button and the available numbers will be displayed. Now you can select the number you like best from the results, or if there’s more than one you like, go ahead and choose several numbers. As you select numbers they will move to the bottom of the page.
Once you have selected your toll-free number, please give it a nickname and choose where this number will forward calls. Even if you don't plan to receive calls to this number, you'll still need to submit a forwarding number.
Finally, click "Activate Number" to activate your toll-free number.
You'll then receive confirmation of the toll-free number.
Congrats! You now have a toll-free number in which you can verify for SMS Campaigns.

Setting Up Your Numbers
In the first step, Call Recording may be enabled, along with an optional greeting. You can choose from one of our existing greetings, or add your own greeting by selecting the Plus [+] button. Click Next to continue.
Note: Some jurisdictions require both parties to consent to any recorded conversation. To assist in the compliance of these laws, you can enable a greeting to inform the caller that the call may be recorded.
A greeting may also be used to inform the caller of any available menu options. For example, “Press 1 for Sales, Press 2 for Support.”
Select Next when you’re ready to proceed to the second step.
On the Call Routing page you can select how incoming calls to your new phone numbers will be handled. There are four options available:
- Standard - Forward calls to a number of your choice. If the call is not answered, it will then be directed to voicemail.
- Simultaneous - Forward calls to several phone numbers at once. All of the provided numbers will ring at the same time, and the call will be connected to the one which answers first.
- Sequential - Forward calls to several phone numbers, starting with the first number and then moving to the next if the call is not answered.
- Voicemail - Send calls straight to voicemail without attempting to forward them first.
Choose one of these options, and enter one or more phone numbers for any of the forwarding options.
You may also configure what is displayed on Caller ID when the number is forwarded. The most common option is to display the original Caller’s Number. Alternatively, you may choose to have the newly purchased number itself displayed in order to differentiate between calls to your 800.com account and calls directly to your phone.
Select Save when you’ve finished configuring the routing, and all of your purchased numbers will be configured automatically.
Fax Numbers
To add fax numbers to your account, set the Search Type to Fax. You can then type in a 3 number area code to pick a suitable local number. There are a limited number of area codes available, so you may have to try several.
Once you’ve selected the numbers you’d like to keep, click the Purchase button to add them to your account.
On the next page, the numbers you selected will be displayed. You then have the option to Search for more numbers or you can select Done.
To set up your fax you will only need to enter a notification email to send incoming faxes. Choose Set up now to begin the process.

If you would like to add a large amount or array of numbers to your account you have the option to purchase them in bulk. To take advantage of this feature, click the "Purchase Numbers" option on the top right of the "Numbers" page.
Set the Search Type to Bulk Purchase.
You have the option of searching for one prefix/area code or multiple with the search box underneath. As specified, you just need to make sure each is separated by a comma. To the right you can dictate how many numbers are acquired for each prefix/area code. When you click search, you will be informed whether or not the desired numbers are available in their entirety.
You can then click the "Purchase" button on the bottom right to complete the process.
If the desired numbers are not available or their are not enough, a message will be displayed and you will not be able to click the purchase button. If this is the case, you will need to refine your search.
*Please note that additional numbers can add additional charges to your monthly responsibility. The additional amount per number depends on the plan for which your account is enrolled. Please review our Overview of plans and billing article for more details.
Getting your number(s) verified for SMS
If you would like to send SMS messages from your number(s), you will need to Verify them first.
Begin this process by clicking on the "Numbers" tab again. Hover over the 3 dots to the right of your toll-free number, which you'll use for SMS campaigns, and select the "Verify Number" option.
On the next screen, you'll be instructed to fill out a form. Please double-check all of your inputs for accuracy; inaccuracies can cause a delay in verification.
Once complete, click Submit to submit your number for verification.
Once the questionnaire and supporting documentation are submitted, we will send the request to our carrier, who will then submit it to the industry's SMS provider. They will respond to us, indicating whether or not the industry's SMS provider permits messaging services, and we will relay this information back to the requesting party.
This process can take one to two weeks. Numbers awaiting a response will be placed in a "Pending Verification" status. SMS services may be restricted until we receive a response from our carrier indicating the number is approved and the number's status is changed to "verified."
