Building Your 800 AI Agent
This guide runs through a guided wizard. Most setups take just a few minutes, since 800.com does the research for you by reading your website.
Getting Started
- From the navigation menu, click AI Agents.
- Select Create your Receptionist Now. You'll first be prompted to provide basic business details used to train and configure your 800 AI Agent. All fields default to the information already saved in your account settings.
- If a website hasn't been found in your account settings, enter your website address and click Scan. The system will attempt to find your Google Business Profile and ask you to confirm it, or let you search for a different one.
- Click Continue to proceed with setup, or Cancel to abandon it (any changes made will be discarded).
Note: If you select Skip for now, you'll be prompted later to confirm your Business Name, Industry, Location, and Business Hours (based on what's in your Account Settings) so the system can train your 800 AI Agent.
Training on Past Calls (Optional)
You'll have the option to train your 800 AI Agent from real calls. If you don't have enough call history yet in 800.com, you can upload past calls to train it instead — see Uploading Past Calls to Train Agent below.
Select Skip for now to bypass this step, or Continue to train on past calls.
Choosing a Voice
Next, you'll select your 800 AI Agent's voice. If it isn't pronouncing your business name correctly, click Fix pronunciation and type out how it should be pronounced (for example, "Ac-me" for Acme). Click Continue when done.
Website & Business Analysis
The system will analyze your business using your website and Google Business Profile — detecting your industry, extracting hours and FAQs, finding booking and contact forms, and recommending skills for your 800 AI Agent based on what it finds.
Note: Depending on the size of your website, this analysis could take a few minutes.
Once the analysis finishes, review and confirm what was found. Make any necessary changes to the detected industry or location. If your business hours show different times across your account settings, website, and Google Business Profile, you can choose which hours your 800 AI Agent should use when answering questions, or set custom hours. Click Continue when done.
Selecting Skills
Based on the analysis, skills are preselected using your website's content and what's common for businesses in your industry. You can toggle any skill on or off, and skills can be updated at any time from the Agent Configuration page. See Managing Your Agent's Skills for more detail.
Note: If Scheduling is selected, you'll be prompted to connect your calendar. See Connecting Your Calendar in the Agent Configuration documentation for more information.
Assigning Numbers or Call Flows
Next, assign the numbers or call flows you want your 800 AI Agent to answer:
- Select Get a new number if you don't currently have any numbers or call flows available. If you choose this option, you'll need to confirm you're agreeing to an additional monthly charge for the new number.
- Select Your numbers & call flows to choose from numbers or call flows you already have.
Then choose when you want your 800 AI Agent to answer, and click Continue:
- Every Call (selected by default) — your 800 AI Agent answers first, with your existing routing as the fallback.
- Missed Calls — calls go through your existing routing first; your 800 AI Agent answers only if no one picks up.
- After Hours — calls go through your existing routing during your selected business hours; your 800 AI Agent answers outside those hours.
Note: Assigning an 800 AI Agent turns on Call Recording, Call Transcription, and 800 Intelligence™. Minutes beyond what your plan includes are billed per minute — rates for 800 Intelligence™ and Call Transcription depend on your plan. These features stay on even if you unassign the 800 AI Agent later, so if you no longer want them, you'll need to turn them off on the number or call flow directly.
Finishing Setup
Once setup is complete, you'll land on the Agent Configuration page, where you can make further adjustments, test a call, and enable your 800 AI Agent. It's disabled by default and won't answer calls until you enable it.
Note: If your 800 AI Agent wasn't assigned to a number during the wizard, you can still enable it — but it won't answer any calls until it's assigned to a number or call flow.
Uploading Past Calls to Train Agent
800 Intelligence™, Call Recording, and Call Transcription must be turned on to train on past calls. If you have transcripts from another system, you can upload those instead.
Important: Uploading past calls generates your 800 AI Agent's prompt, skills, fields to collect, and knowledge base — all grounded in how your business actually talks to customers. This gets you most of the way there in minutes, but it doesn't hand you a fully finished agent. If your calls depend on other tools (looking up an order or claim, checking an account, etc.), training will spot and flag these as recommendations — but it can't configure those tools for you. That part stays manual. Think of this as a strong starting point that also tells you exactly what's missing, not a finished agent.
If you have transcripts from another system, your uploaded file needs a call reference and the transcript text. A downloadable example file is available to show the expected format.
Note: Uploading past transcripts is currently only available when creating your first 800 AI Agent through the wizard.
To upload transcriptions, click Add File, select the transcript file, confirm you have the right to upload the transcripts, and click Continue.
For more on how call-based training works after your first agent, see Training your agent on existing call transcriptions.
Building Additional Agents
Once your first 800 AI Agent is built, you can create additional agents quickly. From AI Agents, select Agents > New Agent. You'll be shown the settings from your existing 800 AI Agent as a starting point — go through each screen and make any desired changes. When you're done, be sure to test your call and enable the agent so it can start taking calls.
